Hi, I'm Jessie!

I’m a proud Chicago native who has spent the last decade building community, amplifying voices, and advocating for justice in South Carolina. With roots in public education and a lifelong passion for equity, I bring both heart and hands-on experience to the work I do.

Before stepping deeper into community organizing and advocacy, I worked as a public school music educator—an experience that deeply shaped my perspective and my purpose. In the classroom, I prioritized creating safe, inclusive spaces where every student, especially LGBTQIA+ youth, felt seen, supported, and empowered to be their authentic selves. I witnessed firsthand how essential it is to protect and uplift young people who are too often pushed to the margins. That’s where my commitment to justice took deeper root.

Now, my work lives beyond the classroom, but my values remain the same. I am community-driven and people-focused, always striving to be more present, more vocal, and more involved. Whether I’m tabling at local events, attending protests, volunteering for grassroots efforts, or helping others register to vote, I believe in the power of showing up. I regularly communicate with local representatives and push for meaningful, people-centered policy change—because I know the work doesn’t stop at awareness; it demands action.

I’m a proud supporter and advocate for nonprofits and organizations that are shaping a better future, including public education initiatives, Planned Parenthood, and the Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA). I see my advocacy as an extension of care—for my neighbors, for my students past and present, and for all those whose voices need to be heard more clearly in our communities and our government.

As a lifelong purveyor of the arts, I also believe in the transformative power of creativity. Art, like activism, is about connection and courage. It tells the stories that demand to be told and invites others into shared understanding. Whether through organizing, creating, or simply listening, my goal is always the same: to help build a community where justice, empathy, and equity are not just ideals, but lived realities.

In life since leaving the classroom, I have nurtured and expanded my ability to communicate effectively in the digital age. Through experiences in marketing and communications, I’ve honed skills in crafting compelling messages, engaging diverse audiences, and leveraging digital platforms to amplify important causes. This blend of education, advocacy, creativity, and strategic communication allows me to connect with community members across multiple channels and inspire meaningful action.

With my diverse background and passion for creating meaningful change, I strongly believe I bring a unique voice and perspective—one that, if given the chance, can make a real and lasting difference in the world.
